TI-83 Plus
The TI-83 Plus is a graphing calculator made by Texas Instruments that was designed in 1999 as an upgrade to the TI-82. The TI-83 Plus is one of TI’s most popular calculators. It is an easy to use calculator for math and science on which students can graph and compare different functions and perform data analysis and plotting. It utilizes a ZiLOG Z80 microprocessor which runs at 6 MHz, a 96Ã?64 monochrome LCD screen, and operates on 4 AAA batteries as well as a backup lithium CR1616 or CR1620 battery. A link port is also built into the calculator.

The TI-83 can be used on the SAT, PSAT and ACT college entrance exams.

The main advantage and improvement over the TI-82, is the addition of 512 KB of Flash ROM, which allows for OS upgrades and applications to be installed.

The TI-83 Plus calculator was designed for high school students although it’s now used by middle school students in some public school systems. It has all the features of a scientific calculator as well as function, parametric, polar, and sequential graphing capabilities. It features the ability to do financial calculations, matrix operations; on-calculator programming and more. Algebra and differentiation are not built into this particular model, but is an option as a flash application.

The TI-83 Plus can be programmed using a language called TI-BASIC, which is very much like the BASIC computer language.

Students may enter math problems exactly how they appear in their textbooks with App4Math. It is a free download application from I.Q. Joe.

The LCD screen on the TI-83 Plus is 64×96 pixels that make reading it very easy. This calculator handles engineering, trigonometric, calculus and financial functions and can display graphs and tables on a split screen to trace the graph as you scroll through table values.

The calculator weighs 8 ounces and is 7.3 inches long, 3.5 inches wide and 1 inch thick.

The TI-83 is a powerful tool for math and science students.
